03-26-09 Bob Stevenson (and SKA) were recently the subject of a front-page "Practice Profile" by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. We came to the attention of MLW due to our strong ERISA specialty, our boutique practice, our tenure and strong clientele. The article, and a surprisingly satisfactory photo can be found here.
03-13-09 Bob Stevenson was quoted on Sunday, March 8 in a Detroit Free Press article, about the possible effects of national healthcare reform on the Detroit Three. Although Bob and SKA represent many high-profile VEBA's, and although Bob was interviewed for about 45 minutes, his sole pearl of wisdom to see print was this:
"Would it (national health care) be the silver bullet?" asked Bob Stevenson, an employee benefits attorney in Ann Arbor. "I think we all know the Detroit Three have more problems than just their legacy retirement benefits."

10-14-11 Andrew Stumpff, a Stevenson Keppelman shareholder, has recently updated the leading professional treatise on VEBAs and other welfare benefit plan funding arrangements. Andrew's work documented many years of tax and legal developments on Voluntary Employees Beneficiary Associations, among other things, and is published by TAX MANAGEMENT INC., a subsidiary of the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. This so-called "BNA Portfolio" is the benefit specialist's go-to resource on the subject.
VEBAs are trusts which permit the tax-deductible prefunding of welfare benefits. VEBA trusts are exempt from taxation. Stevenson Keppelman attorneys have worked on VEBAs and other prefunding devices for public employers, private employers, and stand-alone VEBAs, for decades. These have included governments, auto manufacturers and other Fortune 100 corporations, and various stand-alone VEBAs, including those following employer bankruptcies.
We congratulate Andrew on this accomplishment. Andrew also teaches benefits law at the University of Michigan Law School and the University of Alabama Law School. He has also authored a law school textbook on employee benefits and executive compensation, which was published by Foundation Press in April of this year.
